Is the new iPhone Xs worth the upgrade?

iPhone Xs. Should you upgrade from X?

We did our research to find out if the new iPhone Xs is worth to upgrade from iPhone X. The most common usage characteristics, such as dimensions, colors, battery life, charging, and camera were considered. Then we created a table for you with the main differences between iPhone X and iPhone Xs, which is at the end of the post. All the data on that table is taken from Apple’s website.

Spoiler Alert: There is not much difference between two models.

Device dimensions

Height: 5.65”, width: 2.79”, depth: 0.30”.

iPhone X and iPhone Xs have identical device dimensions: the exact same height, width, depth, and even the display size: both have the 5.8” OLED screen. The only physical difference is iPhone Xs is heavier by 0.1 ounces or 3 grams.

Colors

Silver, Space Gray vs. Silver, Space Gray, Gold.

Some people will buy the iPhone Xs just for the Gold color. Considering that both iPhone models look identical, it would be the most expensive paint job in smartphone upgrade history. Even if you do the upgrade solely because of the color, you will buy a protective case on it, so you won’t be able to showcase the color of your phone. Maybe, you should buy a gold case on your current phone.

Battery life & charging

Lasts 30 mints longer than iPhone X, but has some charging problems.

YouTube has many videos about charging problems that iPhone Xs has. For some reason, when the device is in sleep or idle mode (when the device is locked, and the screen is off), the charger that comes in the box, won’t charge the device. People had to tap on the screen to start charging, but as soon as the phone goes to the idle mode, it will stop charging.
If you have an older iPhone with short battery life, consider optimizing your battery before replacing it.

Camera

Overall better-detailed sharper images and improved camera stabilization.

Overall, iPhone Xs has a better camera than the X. Smaller pixels allow the pictures to be sharper and more detailed, especially when you zoom in. The rear camera on Xs has better video stabilization and slow-motion focus. Apple also improved the front camera: now you can shoot 1080p with 60FPS and better camera stabilization.

Final Verdict

Spend your hard-earned money wisely.

Considering that the new iPhone Xs starts at $999 before tax, is the slight upgrade from iPhone X worth your money? We’ll leave it up to you to decide what to do with your money. If you decided to switch to iPhone Xs, make sure to backup all your data and factory reset your old iPhone before selling it.
