1. Student discount.
Apple offers student discounts on some of its products. So, if you are a student, just go to the nearest Apple store and ask for the student discount. You will need to show your student ID to qualify for the discount. If you are not a student, maybe one of your siblings or friends is a student or knows someone who is a student. Just think about it: one question can save you up to $150.
The discounts vary from $50 to $150:
- $50 off on MacBook Pros
- $100 off on the maxed-out iMac, but only $50 off on the basic iMac
- $150 off for the basic MacBook Air, but only $50 on higher-powered models
Student discount is also available on other products, such as Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iPad, etc.
2. Wait for holiday sales.
Usually, big corporations get rid of its previous models during the holiday sales or after the new models are released. It is still new untouched products, just not the latest models. In most cases, new models are slightly better than the previous ones, so you won’t be losing much. So, look up the nearest national holiday and you can plan your purchase from there.
3. Shop around at different places.
Apple store might not offer the best prices. Besides going on Apple’s website or to the Apple store, check out other sellers, such as Amazon, BestBuy, Walmart, HSN, KOHL’s etc. Sometimes Apple sells its models slightly cheaper on Amazon than on its own website. Make a spreadsheet with all the models that you consider buying and the prices at the different vendors. Keep your eyes open, and maybe you will find a great deal.
4. Previous refurbished models.
Consider refurbished older models. There might be a slight difference between the models in terms of hardware. Just make sure that all the software you need can run on the particular model. You can follow these basic but valuable tips on choosing the best used MacBook for you.
